Icheon City Wins 'Youth-Friendly Dedicated Award' for Communication Excellence

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Um In-yong] Icheon City received the 'Communication Award' at the '2025 Youth-Friendly Dedicated Awards' on the 13th in recognition of its consistent policy implementation and open communication efforts to create a city where youth can thrive.

The 'Youth-Friendly Dedicated Award' is presented by the organization 'Youth and Future,' overseen by the National Assembly Service, to commend institutions and local governments that contribute to creating youth-friendly environments. Awards are given based on comprehensive evaluations in the areas of youth policy, support, and communication.

The award was presented at the '9th Korea Youth Day Memorial Ceremony' held on 'Youth Day,' a statutory memorial day designated as the third week of September each year. Icheon City received high praise for establishing a system that enables youth to participate as principal stakeholders from policy planning through implementation, based on communication with youth.

Icheon City has gone beyond simply creating policies for youth to build a structure in which youth become the subjects of policy.

A Youth Special Advisory Board Member directly conveys the voices of young people to the mayor, the Youth Support Policy Committee and Youth Activity Network reflect diverse opinions from the field in municipal affairs, and festivals and projects planned directly by youth have heightened youth presence and participation within the local community.

Mayor Kim Kyung-hee said, "This award is not merely a result obtained through administrative support, but an achievement driven by youth directly participating in bringing about change in municipal affairs," and added, "Going forward, we will create an environment where youth can fully realize their potential and grow together with the community."
