Yongin Special City Deploys Proactive Snow Removal Measures for Winter Heavy Snowfall
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Choi Ki-ho] Yongin Special City announced on the 20th that it is designating the period from November 15 to March 15 next year as the snow removal operation period and is launching a comprehensive winter road snow removal strategy in earnest to prepare for the coming winter season.
The city has launched proactive response measures and established a field-focused rapid snow removal system to prevent traffic disruption and safety accidents caused by heavy snow and icing.
This snow removal measure sets ‘proactive situation management, rapid response, and expanded citizen participation’ as three major promotional directions, focusing on minimizing citizen inconvenience and maintaining traffic flow through rapid response during heavy snowfall.
The city replaced 44 units of aging snow removal equipment and additionally deployed 6 snow removal vehicles, securing a total of 515 snow removal equipment units (including 124 rental units) this year. In addition, it plans to stockpile snow removal materials—19,360 tons of eco-friendly de-icer, 3,180 tons of liquid de-icer, 600 cubic meters of sand, 1,047 snow removal boxes, and others—at approximately 90% of the previous year's usage level in advance.
The city operates 127 automatic salt-water spray devices and 9 road heating systems at major mountain passes and frost-vulnerable sections. It plans to additionally install fixed salt-water spray devices at 5 new locations including Provincial Route 321 and major school commute routes. All devices are operated via remote control, enabling immediate activation upon snowfall forecasts.
The city will conduct proactive snow removal from the exits of 11 bus depots—where inconvenience occurred during last year's heavy snowfall—to the start of routes, and will deploy snow removal boxes at 83 apartment complex entrances and 190 school commute routes for public use.
The city will support 88 snow removal blade attachments for agricultural machinery in eup and myeon areas to expand autonomous snow removal activities at the village level.
The city is also strengthening its IoT-based smart snow removal system. By installing smart sensors and cameras on 87 snow removal vehicles, real-time confirmation of snow removal vehicle locations and road conditions enables rapid and accurate snow removal response.
Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "This snow removal measure prioritizes citizen safety and traffic flow, establishing a proactive response system and preparing thoroughly in advance," and added, "I urge all citizens to actively participate in the snow removal campaign in front of your homes and businesses."
