Osan City Conducts '2025 Safe Korea Disaster Response Drill' Simulating Heavy Snow and Icing
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park Chan-hyuk] On the 30th, Osan City conducted the '2025 Safe Korea Disaster Response Drill' at the entrance road of Seo-Osan Tollgate on Capital Region Expressway No. 2 in Yangsan-dong, assuming a scenario of a large-scale multi-vehicle pileup and fire caused by heavy snow and icing.
This simulated scenario assumed a situation where a tank truck overturns in a heavy snow and icing section, followed vehicles collide in a chain reaction resulting in multiple casualties, with a fire from the tank truck spreading to the Seo-Osan Service Area. The drill intensively reviewed initial response to large-scale disasters and inter-agency collaboration systems.
The on-site response involved 25 agencies and organizations including Osan City and Hwaseong City, Osan Fire Department, Osan Police Station, 2nd 2819 Unit 1st Battalion, Gyeonggi Expressway, Korea Electric Power Corporation, KT, local autonomous disaster prevention groups, safety and security personnel, and volunteer fire brigades, with approximately 310 participants. Each agency confirmed cooperation systems and response procedures in the event of disasters.
The drill proceeded with △rescue and first aid operations at the multi-vehicle collision site △traffic control and securing alternative routes △oil spill response and environmental measures △fire containment at the service area and evacuation support for citizens. The drill reinforced practical response capabilities by setting up the scene identically to actual situations.
The city activated an on-site situation reporting system to check accident reporting, situation dissemination, initial assessment, and command reporting procedures, and conducted a situation assessment meeting and discussion drill.
Mayor Lee Kwon-jae stated, "To prepare for unpredictable disasters, practical drills in peacetime are most important," and added, "We will prioritize citizens' lives and safety and establish a seamless response system together with related agencies."
