Pyeongtaek to Begin Construction at Pyeongtaek Station Five-Way Intersection from November for Complex Cultural Plaza

[Suwon Ilbo=Park Chan-hyuk Reporter] Pyeongtaek City announced on the 5th that it plans to begin construction at the Pyeongtaek Station five-way intersection from mid-November as part of the Pyeongtaek Station Complex Cultural Plaza development project.

This construction is being carried out to connect the 'Complex Cultural Plaza' and 'Car-Free Street' and to develop a parking lot. Through the project, an underground pedestrian passage and an underground parking lot with approximately 201 spaces are expected to be newly created.

During the construction period, some lanes at the Pyeongtaek Station five-way intersection will be temporarily altered and restricted. To minimize traffic congestion, temporary roads and restricted zones will be operated flexibly depending on the construction phase.

Meanwhile, the 'Pyeongtaek Station Complex Cultural Plaza' and 'Car-Free Street' development project is an urban regeneration project with a total investment of 80.8 billion won. Plaza construction has been underway since July of last year, and the entire project is expected to be completed by next year.

Upon completion of the project, Pyeongtaek Station Plaza will be transformed into an open cultural space with an outdoor performance venue and green rest areas, and is expected to become a representative landmark in the city featuring media walls and lighting. Additionally, the plaza will be directly connected to the Car-Free Street through underground passages, which is expected to enhance citizen mobility convenience and contribute to revitalizing the local commercial district.

Mayor Jung Jang-sun stated, "The Pyeongtaek Station Complex Cultural Plaza development is a project aimed at transforming the previously cluttered and congested Pyeongtaek Station area into a citizen-centered open space," and added, "The construction at the five-way intersection will cause inconvenience to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic, but we ask for your understanding and cooperation. We will do our best to ensure that the city completes the construction as quickly and safely as possible."
