Warm Hearts for Winter: Namyangju Saemaul Association Completes 'Sharing Kimchi' Event
[Suwon Ilbo=Um In-yong Reporter] Namyangju City held the 'Sharing Kimchi' event on November 11 and 12 at the village community center, hosted by the Namyangju Saemaul Association (President Lee Deok-woo).
The city continues kimchi sharing with Saemaul leaders every year, spreading a culture of sharing and mutual prosperity in the community.
The event brought together approximately 250 male and female Saemaul leaders from 16 townships, sub-districts, and dongs in Namyangju City, who directly handled all processes from harvesting radishes and green onions to preparing seasonings, brining cabbage, and packaging, creating kimchi full of care and dedication.
Mayor Ju Gwang-deok, who visited the event site, encouraged the Saemaul leaders and personally participated in the kimchi-making process, adding warmth to the occasion.
Over the two days, approximately 4,000 portions of carefully prepared kimchi were delivered to around 700 vulnerable households in the community, including elderly living alone, recipients of basic living assistance, and near-poor households.
Meanwhile, the Namyangju Saemaul Association is taking the lead in practicing neighborly love by continuing various social contribution activities including sharing soy sauce and soy paste, sharing side dishes of love, making holiday rice cakes together, river cleanup activities, and traffic safety campaigns.
President Lee Deok-woo said, "I am grateful for the dedication of Saemaul leaders who practice sharing by taking the initiative for our neighbors," and added, "Through the sharing of kimchi, we will continue the community spirit of thinking of 'us' rather than 'me.'"
Mayor Ju Gwang-deok stated, "Citizens directly participating and practicing sharing is the city's greatest source of pride," and said, "Going forward, the city will continue to support the expansion of a sharing culture in which the public and government work together to revitalize a warm community."
