Anyang City Achieves Top Ranking for Third Consecutive Year in Hangang Water System Management Fund Project Performance Evaluation

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yu Je-sung] Anyang City announced on the 23rd that it achieved first place (highest excellence) for the third consecutive year in the Pollution Total Load Management Project category among 34 Hangang Water System administrative agencies in the '2024 Fiscal Year Hangang Water System Management Fund Project Performance Evaluation' overseen by the Hangang Regional Environmental Office.

With this evaluation, the city was selected as the first administrative agency among all agencies to achieve first place (highest excellence) for three consecutive years, following the 2020 and 2022 fiscal years, and also set a record as the administrative agency with the 'most first-place finishes.'

This performance evaluation assessed 34 metropolitan cities, provinces, cities, and counties in the Hangang Water System including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Gangwon, and North Chungcheong on △appropriateness of project management △excellence in goal achievement and performance △budget efficiency △communication and publicity in project implementation.

The city achieved the target water quality for the Anyang A unit watershed by 2030 through the implementation of Phase 2 Total Water Pollution Load Management and various water quality improvement projects, with a five-year average (2021-2025) of 143% above the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) target of 6.2㎎/L, and developed its own water pollution emission calculation program, achieving results in resolving conflicts between local governments in the Anyang Stream watershed.

In particular, the city received the highest scores in this evaluation for budget execution efficiency and appropriateness, as well as excellence in goal achievement and performance, and obtained higher scores than other administrative agencies in active publicity and transparent project management during the project implementation process, demonstrating outstanding performance in the Pollution Total Load Management Project category.

Mayor Choi Dae-ho stated, "Going forward, we will continuously promote water circulation policies and non-point source pollution management and related policies to improve water quality in Anyang Stream and create a comfortable river environment."
