Hwaseong Special City Visits Plastic Recycling Facility
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park Chan-hyeok] Hwaseong Special City announced on the 28th that it visited a resource circulation company within the city on the 26th to inspect the circular use of plastic products.
On that day, Minister Kim Sung-hwan of the Climate, Energy and Environment Ministry, along with Mayor Jung Myung-geun and related officials, visited a PET bottle recycling company located in Ujeong-eup and examined the overall recycling process.
In particular, the group confirmed the collection, sorting, and recycling processes for various plastic products in everyday life, including electronic products and PET bottles. They reviewed companies' resource circulation technology and innovation cases while discussing cooperation measures to activate the circular economy.
This visit was carried out in connection with the "Draft De-plasticization Roadmap" announced by the Climate, Energy and Environment Ministry on the 23rd. Through this roadmap, the government has set a goal to reduce household and business waste plastic emissions by at least 30% compared to projections by 2030.
The roadmap includes comprehensive measures including △introduction of paid disposable cups (the "separate cup billing system") △transition to materials easier to recycle △strengthening corporate responsibility for collection △expansion of recycled material use.
The city plans to actively cooperate with companies within the city to enhance effectiveness as the roadmap is materialized, while implementing △expansion of recycling infrastructure △expansion of citizen participation △preparation of support measures at the local government level.
Meanwhile, Mayor Jung Myung-geun conveyed suggestions regarding major pending issues in Hwaseong City to Minister Kim Sung-hwan of the Climate, Energy and Environment Ministry on that day.
Mayor Jung Myung-geun stated, "The city will actively cooperate with government policies to advance into a circular economy city where businesses and citizens participate together," and added, "We will create a sustainable urban environment through plastic reduction and expanded recycling."
