Hwaseong Special City to Pay Respects at Hyungchung Tower on New Year's Day 2026
[Suwon Ilbo=Park Chan-hyuk Reporter] Hwaseong Special City held its first official event of the new year in the Year of the Fire Horse (丙午年) on January 1st with a visit to the Hyungchung Tower in Songsan-dong.
The ceremony was held to honor the noble sacrifices of patriots and national heroes ahead of the launch of the four-district system scheduled for February 1st, and to reaffirm the city's resolve in municipal governance while praying for the safety and well-being of citizens.
The event was attended by approximately 100 people, including Mayor Jung Myeong-geun, National Assembly Speaker Bae Jung-soo, city council members, National Assembly members Song Ok-ju, Lee Jun-seok, Kwon Chil-seung, and Jeon Yong-gi, as well as party representatives and local committee chairpersons from various political parties and leaders of veterans organizations.
Attendees paid their respects by offering flowers and incense, led by the leaders of veterans organizations, and shared New Year's greetings in a meaningful gathering.
Mayor Jung Myeong-geun said, "On the occasion of the new year 2026, the Year of the Fire Horse, I extend my gratitude and respect to national meritorious persons and veterans organization leaders at Hyungchung Tower," adding that "the sacrifice and dedication of our patriots and national heroes have become the foundation for Hwaseong's growth today."
Mayor Jung further stated, "With the launch of the four-district system in February, we will lower the barriers to administration and fully incorporate the voice of the people at the grassroots level so that all citizens can experience innovation that brings tangible changes to their lives."
