Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon Metropolitan City: "I will complete a new Suwon through a transformation that citizens can feel"
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-seong] Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Suwon Metropolitan City announced, "I will complete a new Suwon through a transformation that citizens can feel."
The mayor said at a New Year briefing held at Ilwol Arboretum on the 6th, "In 2026, I will also implement citizen-centered policies that are practically helpful to the lives of citizens," and added, "I will meet more citizens, listen to more voices, and create a new Suwon together with the citizens."
He further emphasized, "All policies in 'citizen sovereignty city' Suwon begin from the voices of citizens," and stated, "The words of citizens will become the direction in which Suwon will move forward."
As for the 'Future of Suwon,' he presented three visions: 'a city centered on advanced science research,' 'a world-class culture and tourism city,' and 'a more livable city that citizens can feel.'
Mayor Lee Jae-jun said, "I will make every effort to ensure that the Suwon Economic Free Zone receives final designation from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in November," and stated, "I will consolidate the functions of advanced science research, including artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and biotechnology in the Suwon Economic Free Zone to develop Suwon into a center of advanced science research and a global advanced research and development (R&D) hub."
He also said, "I will industrialize the three major Suwon Hwaseong festivals—the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, the Jeongjo Grand King's Procession, and the Suwon Hwaseong Media Art—and develop them into the world's top three festivals," and added, "I will recommend to the government that the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival be officially designated as a 'National Representative K-Festival' under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism."
He continued, "To reduce the burden of living expenses on citizens, we will implement the 'Suwon New Light Living Expense Package Project' starting this year," and explained, "We have carefully designed the New Light Living Expense Package so that all classes—from households with newborns and teenagers to youth and the elderly—benefit equally."
Mayor Lee Jae-jun stated, "I will go out to the field more often to listen to the hearts of citizens and continue to discover sustainable policies that reach the skin of citizens," and concluded, "I will devote all my efforts so that citizens can enjoy better lives."
