Osan Mayor Lee Kwon-jae Proposes Key Local Issues to Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon, Including North Osan IC Access Lane Expansion

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park Chan-hyuk] Osan City requested comprehensive provincial-level support for major local issues from Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon, who visited Osan on the 23rd.

Governor Kim visited Osan as part of Gyeonggi Province's civil economy field tour project "Daldalbus (Changes wherever it goes)."

The governor first attended a "Segyo 1·2 New Town Residents and Applied Materials (AMAT) Officials Roundtable Discussion" held at the Chopyeong-dong Administrative Welfare Center.

At this meeting, Osan Mayor Lee Kwon-jae requested Gyeonggi Province's participation as a joint project operator in the Segyo 3 New Town development project.

Mayor Lee stated, "If Gyeonggi Province participates as a joint project operator in the Segyo 3 New Town development, we anticipate that the project can be promoted at a faster pace," and requested full cooperation on all aspects of the project.

Mayor Lee added, "Although the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has reflected 93,000 pyeong of economic self-sufficiency land in Segyo 3 New Town, it falls short of the level of Seongnam's Pangyo Techno Valley. We ask that the province join forces to secure a final 150,000 pyeong of economic self-sufficiency land."

Citizen A in attendance requested △early commencement of GTX-C line extension to Osan △Suwon-originated KTX stop in Osan △reflection of Bundang Line extension connecting Osan University Station to Segyo 3 District, and suggested "actively reflect transportation issues so that the perception of Osan as a good place to live grows."

Mayor Lee Kwon-jae conducted an on-site inspection with Governor Kim Dong-yeon near the North Osan IC on the Seoul Metropolitan Expressway Second Ring Road.

At the site, Mayor Lee proposed △North Osan IC access lane expansion project budget (2→3 lanes) △traffic information system improvement project budget △Chopyeong-dong water play park development project budget.

Currently, the North Osan IC access road experiences severe congestion with queuing reaching 210 meters during rush hour due to short lane change sections and insufficient lane capacity. The city is promoting access lane expansion and traffic system improvement projects to address this.

The southern Osan region, to which Chopyeong-dong belongs, has faced complaints about relatively insufficient leisure facilities compared to other areas. In response, the city has established plans to develop a family-friendly water play park in southern Osan.

Mayor Lee Kwon-jae stated, "The issues proposed today are not only long-cherished wishes of Osan citizens but also matters that enhance the competitiveness of Gyeonggi Province as a whole," and expressed, "I look forward to active interest and support from Governor Kim Dong-yeon and Gyeonggi Province."

In response, Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, "I will carefully review the pending issues raised today," and replied, "I will pay attention with the understanding that changes in Osan lead to changes in Gyeonggi Province."
