Icheon City Agricultural Technology Center Deploys Crop Residue Shredding Support Squad

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Icheon City (Mayor Kim Kyung-hee) operates a 'Crop Residue Shredding Support Squad' to reduce fine dust in rural areas and prevent spring wildfires.

The Crop Residue Shredding Support Squad is a project in which specialists visit farms directly and shred crop residues free of charge for farmers who find them difficult to handle.

Through this project, the city plans to prevent illegal burning and create a safe agricultural environment.

If crop residues are shredded rather than burned and returned to the soil, it not only reduces fine dust generation but is also expected to increase organic matter content and enrich the soil.

Applicants must be farmers registered with an agricultural management entity, and the application period runs until April 10.

Applications can be submitted to the Icheon City Agricultural Technology Center's Farming Technology Team (Northern 6190-7420, Central 6190-7460, Southern 6190-7455) or the Grain Crops Team (6190-7432), with on-site shredding operations scheduled from February 19 to April 30.

Kim Dong-ho, director of the Icheon City Agricultural Technology Center, said, "The on-site crop residue shredding service is an initiative for spring wildfire prevention and fine dust reduction, with the first-half operations ending on April 30. We ask that you apply before April 10."
