Kim Dong-yeon "Supply 800,000 Housing Units by 2030"
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Gab-dong] In line with the government's housing supply plan to supply 1.35 million units in the Seoul Metropolitan Area by 2030, Gyeonggi Province announced plans to supply 800,000 housing units, taking the lead in stabilizing residential conditions in the metropolitan area.
The large-scale supply initiative includes 170,000 public units and 630,000 private units, with a strategy to secure more than 260,000 public rental housing units and accelerate the supply pace through redevelopment of first-phase new towns and urban mixed-use development.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province held a press conference on the 30th at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government briefing room and announced the 'Gyeonggi Province Real Estate Supply Plan'.
Governor Kim stated, "Gyeonggi Province will actively promote responsible housing policies as the primary partner of the nation's state affairs in line with the government's housing supply measures," and added, "Today's plan represents the result of faithfully implementing and advancing the Lee Jae-myung government's 'September 7 Real Estate Plan' and 'January 29 Urban Housing Supply Expansion Plan' in the field."
He further stated, "Today's plan has been prepared through sufficient consultation with the government to maintain policy continuity while enabling swift implementation," and noted, "Gyeonggi Province's housing policy direction and implementation pace will greatly contribute not only to residential stability across the entire nation but also to building market trust."
Accordingly, the province will supply a total of 800,000 housing units by 2030 based on the '2030 Gyeonggi Province Comprehensive Housing Plan'. This comprises 170,000 units from the public sector and 630,000 units from the private sector. By supply type, 620,000 apartments and 180,000 multi-family and single-family houses will be supplied.
The province will also accelerate the supply pace. It will simultaneously pursue redevelopment of first-phase new towns, revitalization of aging city centers, and mixed-use development of aging public buildings. The province plans to proactively review rational utilization methods for the Greenbelt area to secure mid-to-long-term supply infrastructure.
Housing welfare will also be strengthened. Public rental housing will supply 265,000 units by 2030, combining construction-type housing and purchase/lease rental housing. Along with swift housing supply, high-quality Gyeonggi-type public housing that can accommodate various lifestyles from single-person households to multi-person households, and from young people to the elderly will be provided.
The 'Gyeonggi Opportunity Town', a Gyeonggi-type urban policy brand, will also be expanded. It is an urban policy brand that provides jobs and housing without commute concerns, leisure + α (specialized functions) together. By smoothly proceeding with currently ongoing projects such as Third Pangyo, North Suwon, and Uman Techno Valley, the province will create desirable residential foundations beyond simple residential complexes.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon stated, "Cooperation from local governments in the Seoul Metropolitan Area is essential for the success of the government's housing policy. Gyeonggi Province will become the most reliable partner of the state in creating the site where government policies succeed first," and added, "Gyeonggi Province will take responsibility and complete the supply of 800,000 housing units as a promise to its residents."
