Anyang City Pays Tribute to Patriotic Figures on 107th Anniversary of March 1 Independence Movement

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yu Je-sung] Anyang City paid tribute to the memorial statues of patriotic figures at Veterans Plaza in Jiyugongwon Park in Galsan-dong, Dong-gu on March 1st, marking the 107th anniversary of the March 1 Independence Movement.

Approximately 50 people attended the tribute ceremony, including Mayor Choi Dae-ho and members of the Gwangbok회Anyang City Chapter.

The attendees mourned the noble sacrifices of patriots who dedicated their lives to national independence and reflected on the historical significance of March 1st, which declared the Korean people's will for self-determination and independence through the March 1 Movement.

The Veterans Plaza in Jiyugongwon Park is home to memorial statues of patriots Han Hang-gil (Han Heung-ri), Won Tae-woo (Won Tae-geun), Lee Jae-cheon, and Lee Jae-hyeon.

The ceremony proceeded solemnly with floral offerings and a moment of silence before the patriotic figures' memorial statues, and participants shared a commitment to remember the history of the independence movement in the Anyang region and pass down proper national values to future generations.

Mayor Choi Dae-ho stated, "Today's Republic of Korea and Anyang exist because of the noble sacrifices of those who died for our nation," and added, "Going forward, Anyang City will not leave the history of the independence movement as a thing of the past, but will remember and inherit it through education, culture, and the daily lives of our citizens."
