[Suwon Ilbo=Choi Ki-ho] Yongin Special City announced on the 15th that it has selected six business establishments as recipients of the 'Traditional Liquor Consumption Activation Support Project' to revitalize the traditional liquor industry within the region and increase consumption of local agricultural products.

The agricultural companies selected for support were chosen after comprehensively reviewing the amount of rice used in the region, award records, and utilization of local agricultural products. The selected businesses are △J-1 △Atoya Brewery △Judasom △J&J Brewery △Buzz&Bees Meadery △Sulsaem.

To enhance the competitiveness of traditional liquor businesses, the city is investing a total of 55 million won in business funds to support △shipping costs △packaging expenses △product development costs △promotional and advertising expenses, among others.

Yongin is a city with a solid foundation in the traditional liquor industry. Among local governments in Gyeonggi Province, Yongin has the largest number of liquor manufacturing license-holding businesses, and multiple companies from the region have won awards at the Korea Liquor Awards.

As a result, traditional liquor from Yongin is gaining value and maintaining its reputation both domestically and internationally, with products being carried in restaurants operated by renowned chefs listed in the Michelin Guide. The region also has the highest consumption of Gyeonggi rice, contributing to expanded consumption of local agricultural products and increased farm income.

Liquor license-holding businesses in Yongin used approximately 240 tons of rice produced in the region last year. This year, approximately 340 tons of rice are expected to be utilized in product production, and the region is being recognized as a representative case of agriculture and the traditional liquor industry growing together.

To accelerate the revitalization of the traditional liquor industry, the city is also supporting various policies including the 'Gyeonggi Rice Purchase Price Difference Support Project,' which provides 320 won per kilogram when purchasing rice produced in the region, facility improvement support for agro-food processing businesses, and the 'Visit a Brewery' project.

A city official stated, "During the Lunar New Year holiday, the city held a sales event for gift sets utilizing traditional liquor and agricultural products from the region for civil servants, and sold gift sets worth 25 million won, further contributing to local economic revitalization and promotion of specialty product consumption. We will continue to prepare various support policies so that the traditional liquor industry and local agriculture can grow together, contributing to the vitalization of the local economy."
