Namyangju City Completes Expansion of Hwado IC Seoul-bound Entrance Ramp… Opens March 28

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Namyangju City announced on the 22nd that it will complete the expansion project of the Seoul-bound entrance ramp at Hwado IC on the Seoul-Chuncheon Expressway on the 28th and officially open the section.

The project was undertaken to resolve chronic traffic congestion on the Seoul-bound section of Hwado IC and improve local traffic conditions. The construction expanded the existing single-lane entrance ramp to two lanes in the area around San 51-12, Chasan-ri, Hwado-eup.

The project, with a total investment of approximately 1.3 billion won, was conducted as a public contribution project under the 'Geumnam 5 District Industrial and Distribution District Unit Plan' announced in 2023, with Seoul-Chuncheon Expressway Co., Ltd. taking charge of project implementation.

Seoul-Chuncheon Expressway Co., Ltd. expedited administrative procedures including detailed design and consultations with related agencies last year and commenced construction in November.

Related procedures including completion inspection are currently underway, with official opening scheduled for the 28th.

Mayor Ju Kwang-deok stated, "Hwado IC is a major section where Seoul commute traffic concentrates, and the necessity for expansion has been continuously raised to improve citizens' travel convenience." He added, "Through this expansion project, we expect congestion on the Seoul-bound entrance to ease and regional industrial and logistics accessibility to improve significantly."
