Anyang City Reorganizes Child Policy Around 'Participation and Safety'...Specifics of Practical Implementation Plan
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yu Je-sung] Anyang City is readjusting policy direction and specifying implementation plans to promote substantive advancement of policies following UNICEF Child-Friendly City certification.
On the 27th, the city held the '7th Regular Meeting of the Child-Friendly City Promotion Committee' in the City Hall video conference room, where it reviewed the 2026 Child-Friendly City Comprehensive Implementation Plan (draft) and major promotion tasks.
The meeting was attended by 10 participants including city council members, child policy experts, and NGO representatives, who discussed policy direction and detailed implementation tasks in preparation for higher-level UNICEF Child-Friendly City certification, including expansion of child participation and strengthened safety.
The committee adjusted some existing child-friendly priority projects that had become difficult to implement due to changing conditions, and reached consensus on reorganizing policies centered on substantive child participation and creating safe living environments.
In particular, six new projects and institutional improvements including ▲ permanent operation of a child participation committee ▲ establishment of procedures to solicit children's opinions during policy formulation ▲ creation of integrated child protection zones ▲ introduction of a child-friendly space certification system ▲ implementation of child-friendly city standard surveys ▲ enhancement of key performance indicators (KPI) were addressed as main agenda items.
Additionally, a plan to shift from existing quantitative performance-focused evaluation methods to a key performance indicator (KPI) system centered on qualitative and inclusive aspects such as policy reflection rate, satisfaction, and perceived benefit was also discussed.
Meanwhile, the city received UNICEF 'Child-Friendly City' certification in June of last year, and is currently promoting child rights projects including ▲ mobile child rights education programs ▲ operation of a child rights advocate ▲ operation of a child policy promotion team ▲ installation of exclusive water fountains for young children.
Director Lee Nan-young of the Child Policy Division said, “Based on opinions discussed in the committee, we will further reinforce policies centered on children's participation and safety,” and added, “We will continue our practical efforts to make Anyang City a place where children's voices become policy and safety becomes everyday reality.”
