Uiwang City Completes Renovation of Aging Water Pipes Along Heungan-daero

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yu Je-sung] Uiwang City announced on the 31st that it has successfully completed the 'Heungan-daero Aging Water Pipe Renovation Project,' which was undertaken to provide citizens with cleaner and safer tap water on a stable basis.

The project was carried out to repair aging water pipes that have been buried for over 30 years and have become corroded, which could cause discolored water and posed leakage concerns.

The city invested a total project budget of 6.1 billion won and began work on a 2.078km section of aging water pipes along Naesohn-ro and Heungan-daero starting in May 2023, with final completion this month.

Through this project, the city has fundamentally blocked the source of discolored water and foreign substances, alleviating citizens' concerns about tap water quality.

Additionally, by addressing leaks from old pipes and improving the water supply rate (the percentage of tap water produced at purification plants that reaches consumers), the city expects to achieve cost savings in water pipe leak repair budgets.

Meanwhile, the city plans to sequentially repair deteriorated water pipes throughout the city beyond the completed project area.

Mayor Kim Sung-je said, "I find this aging water pipe renovation project very meaningful as it will significantly improve tap water quality, which is directly related to citizens' health," and added, "Going forward, I will concentrate administrative efforts on rigorous water quality management and continuous improvement of water infrastructure so that citizens can trust and drink tap water with confidence."
