Suwon Special City to Leap Forward as Global Tourism Destination with 'Visit Suwon 2026-2027'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Special City is advancing toward becoming a 'global tourism destination' based on the 'Visit Suwon 2026-2027' initiative.
The city held a 'Visit Suwon 2026-2027 Departmental Progress Report Meeting' on the 13th in the main conference room of City Hall, presided over by First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-soo, to review the progress of the Visit Suwon initiative.
Forty departments are pursuing 75 projects. At the meeting, project progress was presented across four areas: △publicity △reception capacity △events △content.
In the publicity sector, the city plans to strengthen integrated online and offline promotion and expand targeted marketing to attract both domestic and international tourists. The focus will be on spreading the city's image through SNS, tourism platforms, and media collaboration.
The reception capacity sector plans to inspect and improve overall tourism infrastructure including transportation, environment, and information systems to accommodate the anticipated increase in tourists.
The events sector will expand and operate various events and festivals designed to encourage seasonal, nighttime, and extended-stay tourism. Plans include strengthening tourism programs linked with existing events to attract more visitors.
In the content sector, experience-based tourism content and storytelling-based programs will be continuously developed and expanded. The city plans to focus on developing differentiated tourism content utilizing Suwon's historical and cultural resources.
Meanwhile, the city plans to regularly review the progress of Visit Suwon projects and strengthen interdepartmental collaboration to build a sustainable tourism ecosystem.
The city has proclaimed the Visit Suwon initiative to commemorate the 230th anniversary of the completion of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress (2026) and the 30th anniversary of Suwon Hwaseong's designation as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site (2027). The slogan is 'Suwon For You.' The city has set a goal of becoming a global tourism destination attracting 15 million visitors annually.
First Vice Mayor Kim Hyun-soo stated, "Visit Suwon is a core project that all departments must collaborate to advance," and urged, "Let's create a foundation for Suwon's leap forward as a global tourism destination through organic collaboration."
He added, "It is important to create changes and outcomes that tourists can experience," and emphasized, "Projects must be implemented on the ground."
