Guri City Resolves Delays in Senior Driver License Surrender Support Payments
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Um In-yong] Guri City announced on the 15th that it will sequentially distribute support funds by the end of June for the 'Senior Driver License Voluntary Surrender Support Project,' which had experienced payment delays due to budget shortages.
The payment targets all applicants waiting for funds who surrendered their licenses between December 2024 and December 2025 but have not yet received support payments.
The city has continued to receive license surrender applications; however, it has faced difficulties in timely providing support funds to all applicants due to limited budgets.
As a result, the city prioritized previous year unpaid amounts with the next year's budget, repeatedly causing payment delays for applicants of the corresponding year.
To resolve these issues and minimize inconvenience to citizens, the city has prepared and secured the first supplementary budget for 2026, planning to sequentially distribute support funds for both existing unpaid amounts and 2026 applicants within the budget framework.
Support funds will be provided in the form of Guri Love gift certificates (Guri Love cards).
Eligible applicants are residents aged 65 and older with a valid driver's license whose registered residence address is in Guri City as of the application date.
General applicants will receive 100,000 won as before, and from this year's applicants onwards, the support amount will increase to 200,000 won upon verification of actual driving history.
Applicants should visit the administrative welfare center in their respective district office and submit relevant documents such as vehicle registration certificates and automobile insurance certificates that can verify actual driving history.
Kim Hyun-tae, head of the Traffic Administration Division, stated, "We express our gratitude and understanding to citizens who have experienced inconvenience due to delayed support payments caused by budget shortages," adding, "We will make our best efforts to promptly resolve accumulated pending cases to enhance public trust in administration and create a safer Guri City through accident prevention among senior drivers."
