Suwon Special City Accelerates Second Phase of Electric Vehicle Supply Project

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Special City announced on the 28th that it will accelerate the implementation of part of its electric vehicle supply project originally scheduled for the second half, as demand for electric vehicles increases due to rising international oil prices stemming from the Middle East.

The city will begin accepting applications for the second phase of the electric vehicle supply project starting May 11 to minimize gaps in supply following the early depletion of first-half subsidies and reduce the economic burden on residents.

The planned second-phase supply volume for the first half is 1,578 electric vehicles in total, consisting of △1,400 passenger vehicles and △178 cargo vehicles. Subsidy recipients will be selected on a vehicle delivery and registration basis, and applications will be accepted until the budget is exhausted.

Applicants must be individuals, sole proprietors, or corporations with a registered address in Suwon for at least 60 days as of the announcement date (May 7). Applicants should enter into a purchase contract with a vehicle manufacturer or importer and apply through the Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Homepage (www.ev.or.kr).

An official from Suwon City stated, "Demand for electric vehicles continues to increase recently due to rising oil prices and other factors," and added, "We will do our best to promptly implement the supply project so that residents can receive support without inconvenience."
