Gwacheon City Enters Acting Mayor System

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yoo Je-sung] Gwacheon City announced on March 28 that Vice Mayor Song Yong-wook will assume the duties of acting mayor as Mayor Shin Gye-yong registered as a preliminary candidate for the "9th National Simultaneous Local Elections" on March 27, overseeing municipal administration.

This acting system is in accordance with Article 124 of the Local Autonomy Act, and Mayor Shin Gye-yong's duties will be suspended from the date of preliminary candidate registration until the election date of June 3.

During the acting mayor system period, the city plans to inspect major project implementation status by department to ensure that administrative services closely related to citizens' lives are provided without interruption, and will continue to manage major pending projects.

Additionally, the city will strictly adhere to the political neutrality obligations of public officials, and will pay special attention to establishing public service discipline through compliance management and maintaining emergency communication systems.

In particular, election-related statutory duties will be carried out in accordance with schedules in cooperation with related agencies such as the election management committee, and the city plans to manage sectors directly related to citizens' lives—such as disaster and safety, civil complaints, and regional economy—to ensure no administrative vacuum occurs.

Vice Mayor Song Yong-wook stated, "The key to the acting system is stable municipal operation as in ordinary times," and added, "All public officials will maintain political neutrality and diligently carry out their assigned duties to ensure no inconvenience to citizens."
