Guri City Installs Manual-Operated Traffic Signals on Donggurung Historic Street

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Guri City announced on the 15th that it has installed manual-operated traffic signals at the Northern Outer Ring Road Donggurung reverse exit section to ensure safe road crossings for pedestrians within the historic street development project area and facilitate smooth vehicle traffic.

The section is a high-traffic area where vehicles traveling at high speeds enter the city, and concerns have been consistently raised that citizens who previously had to use crossings without traffic signals were exposed to traffic accident risks.

In response, the city completed the installation of manual-operated traffic signals as part of the Donggurung Historic Street development project.

Manual-operated traffic signals are characterized by operating in a way that controls vehicle signals a certain time after pedestrians press a button, enabling the securing of pedestrian safety while efficiently maintaining vehicle flow.

Meanwhile, the city transformed the area into a specialized street where visitors can experience the history and atmosphere of Donggurung by installing granite flagstones modeled after the royal procession route used by Joseon Dynasty kings during ancestral rites, and planting pine trees that symbolize the spirit of the Korean people.

Lee Gwang-seok, head of the city's Road Division, said, "Manual-operated traffic signals are facilities that take into account both pedestrian safety and vehicle flow," and added, "We ask citizens to press the button and wait briefly until the signal changes for safe pedestrian crossing."
