Gwangmyeong Selected as Outstanding Organization in 2026 Gyeonggi Province Fine Dust Reduction Evaluation... Fifth Consecutive Year
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yu Je-sung] Gwangmyeong City was selected as an outstanding organization in the Gyeonggi Province-led "2026 Fine Dust Reduction Outstanding City and County Evaluation," earning the honor of five consecutive years of awards, the city announced on the 9th.
The city received recognition of the sustainability and performance of its fine dust reduction policies by being named an "Outstanding" organization this year, following "Excellent" in 2022, "Commendable" in 2023, "Outstanding" in 2024, and "Commendable" in 2025.
The evaluation was conducted by Gyeonggi Province through comprehensive assessment of 31 cities and counties across three categories and 24 detailed indicators: △organizational leadership interest △fine dust source management △seasonal management implementation performance.
The city has concentrated administrative resources on fine dust management in residential areas, reflecting urban conditions characterized by active redevelopment and reconstruction projects.
The city has worked to improve air quality by systematically managing major emission sources, including continuous inspection of construction site dust, expansion of emissions reduction for aging diesel vehicles, and increased distribution of eco-friendly vehicles.
Additionally, the city has consistently expanded lifestyle-focused projects where citizens can experience change in their daily lives, such as designating redevelopment and reconstruction areas as intensive fine dust management zones and installing fine dust reduction facilities at bus stops with high foot traffic.
Through these efforts, the city achieved visible results, with the average annual ultrafine dust concentration decreasing approximately 18% from 22㎍/㎥ in 2020 to 18㎍/㎥ in 2025.
Meanwhile, the city plans to continuously advance its atmospheric environment management system utilizing smart technology and expand lifestyle-focused fine dust reduction policies to protect citizen health.
