Ganghwa County and Marine Corps 2nd Division Discuss Cooperation to Address Border Area Issues

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Choi Ki-ho] Ganghwa County visited the Marine Corps 2nd Division on the 14th to discuss border area issues and cooperation plans for civil-military mutual prosperity with division commanders and related officials.

This visit was arranged to find cooperation plans that could harmonize regional security and residents' livelihoods within Ganghwa County's unique circumstances as a border area.

To date, Ganghwa County and the Marine Corps 2nd Division have continuously cooperated in improving residents' convenience considering the characteristics of border areas and supporting the local community.

In particular, during busy farming seasons, they have continued to provide marine personnel support to farms facing difficulties due to rural aging and labor shortages, and have also consistently coordinated to reduce inconvenience to residents regarding the DMZ checkpoint non-face-to-face conversion and CCTV installation project.

In this meeting, both institutions agreed to expand substantive cooperation in various sectors such as improving residents' convenience and supporting the local community based on such cooperative foundation, and to further strengthen the foundation for civil-military mutual prosperity through a close communication system.

Meanwhile, the county plans to create a civil-military mutual prosperity model that resolves border area issues and enables the region to develop together through sustained communication with the Marine Corps 2nd Division.

Governor Park Yong-chul said, "Ganghwa County and the Marine Corps 2nd Division continue to maintain a relationship of trust and cooperation for regional security and residents' stability even within the unique circumstances of a border area," adding, "We will continue to create tangible changes and regional development that residents can feel based on close communication."
