Gwacheon City Finalizes New Name for Guldari-gil as 'Byeolyang Flower Stream Street'

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yu Je-seong] Gwacheon City announced on the 22nd that it has finalized the new name of Guldari-gil as 'Byeolyang Flower Stream Street' through a citizen contest.

The name was selected through the 'Gwacheon Guldari-gil Road Name Address Naming Citizen Contest' conducted to capture the identity of the newly transforming space alongside the maintenance of Guldari Market. The contest was held from April 16 to May 8, and received a total of 771 nominations amid high citizen interest.

The city selected 'Byeolyang Flower Street' as the top winner through internal review, citizen preference survey, and expert assessment. Subsequently, reflecting the stream creation project being promoted in the corresponding section, the final road name was confirmed as 'Byeolyang Flower Stream Street' to preserve the meaning of the top winner entry while incorporating the future appearance of the space.

'Byeolyang Flower Stream Street' combines the local name 'Byeolyang' with 'Flower Street' which conveys an image of a beautiful street, and 'Stream Street' symbolizing the future-to-be-created natural stream. The name is further meaningful in that it reflects the characteristics of the space and future vision based on the naming proposal by citizens.

In addition to the top winner, 'Byeolyang Welcoming Street', 'Gwacheon Connection Street', and 'Hyangjchon Forest Street' were selected as excellent entries, and a total of 17 awards including 'Connection Nuri Street', 'Gwacheon Cherry Blossom Street', and 'Connection Street' were presented.

The city plans to announce the winners on the 22nd and distribute prize money. The finalized 'Byeolyang Flower Stream Street' will be used as an official road name through the road name address assignment procedures.
