Suwon Metropolitan City Council Discusses Cultural Cooperation Plans with Osan and Hwaseong City Councils
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] The chairs of the city councils of Suwon, Osan, and Hwaseong gathered on the 4th to discuss cultural cooperation plans.
On that day, Kim Mi-kyung, Chair of Suwon Metropolitan City Council, Kim Jong-wook, Chair of Osan City Council, and Lee Gye-cheol, Chair of Hwaseong Metropolitan City Council, shared a lunch and deliberated on the matter.
This meeting was arranged to explore directions for cooperation among the three cities—which share the benevolent and reformist spirit of King Jeongjo—to advance as a unified cultural community based on historical and cultural solidarity.
The participants reached consensus that although Suwon, Osan, and Hwaseong have different administrative jurisdictions, they are cities sharing historical roots and cultural values related to King Jeongjo.
They also exchanged views on the necessity of leveraging these assets as cultural resources for mutual prosperity and joint development of the three cities.
In particular, they agreed to jointly discover historical and cultural content centered on King Jeongjo and connect the cultural resources and characteristics of each city, while seeking cultural cooperation projects that citizens can experience across diverse areas including cultural events, festivals, tourism, and education.
Meanwhile, Seong Gil-yong, Senior Secretary from Congressman Cha Ji-ho's Office, also attended the meeting.
Kim Mi-kyung, Chair who led the meeting, stated: "Suwon, Osan, and Hwaseong are cities where the benevolent spirit and footprints of reform of King Jeongjo live and breathe, connected across administrative boundaries by a single history and culture. If the three cities cooperate closely while leveraging each one's cultural strengths, we can provide citizens with richer cultural experiences and further strengthen the region's cultural competitiveness." She added: "The Suwon Metropolitan City Council will continue to communicate with Osan City Council and Hwaseong Metropolitan City Council and work together so that 'Cultural Coexistence Jeongjo Special City' can lead to substantive cultural cooperation."
