Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Catch 18 Illegal Acts Near Provincial Natural Parks
The Gyeonggi Provincial Special Judicial Police Unit announced on the 10th that it cracked down on illegal acts near Gyeonggi provincial natural parks from July 6 to 16, catching a total of 18 violations.
Provincial parks are natural parks designated under the Natural Parks Act with the purpose of protecting and utilizing natural scenery comparable to national parks. Gyeonggi Province has three designated sites: Namhansanseong, Yeoninsan, and Surisan.
This crackdown was carried out to eradicate illegal acts occurring near provincial parks during the summer vacation season, in order to preserve a clean natural environment and provide residents with a safe place for rest.
The violations totaled 18 cases: △9 violations of the Food Sanitation Act (unauthorized expansion of business premises and failure to report area changes, etc.), △5 violations of the Development Restriction Zone Act (installation of unauthorized structures and alteration of land form, etc.), △2 violations of the Tourism Promotion Act (operation of unreported miscellaneous theme park businesses), and △2 violations of the Public Waters and River Act (unauthorized occupation and use of public waters and unauthorized use of river water, etc.).
Looking at major violation cases, Business A expanded and used its business premises without permission by installing tables and other items in an outdoor space without reporting a change in the area of the premises, and it also drew river water without authorization for use at the premises.
Business B was caught changing the form of land within a development restriction zone without authorization and using it as a parking lot, while Business C was caught operating miscellaneous theme park facilities (a bouncy castle) without reporting to the competent authority.
The businesses that were caught will be investigated in accordance with relevant laws and then referred to the prosecution.
Kwon Moon-ju, head of the Special Judicial Police Unit, said, "We will continue to crack down on illegal acts near Gyeonggi provincial natural parks and do our best so that residents can enjoy a safe and clean natural environment."
