'Eco-friendly Produce Packages' Provided to 1,389 Households with Children
The Gyeonggi Agriculture & Fisheries Promotion Agency held the ‘Ceremony for Delivering Eco-friendly Produce Packages Using Hometown Love Donations’ at the Yeoju Local Children's Center on the 12th, and began delivering eco-friendly produce packages to 1,389 households with children who use local children's centers.
Gyeonggi Province established the ‘Eco-friendly Produce Package Support Project for Vulnerable Groups’ as its first designated donation project using hometown love donations, aimed at reducing nutritional gaps for children whose school meals are suspended during vacation and supporting healthy eating habits.
From last July, when fundraising began, through this March, a total of 60 million won in donations was collected, and using this, a total of 2,812 households will be supported twice this year during the winter and summer vacations.
During this past February's winter vacation, eco-friendly produce packages were delivered to 1,423 households with children using local children's centers. For this summer vacation, the packages will be delivered sequentially to 1,389 households with children who use local children's centers in six cities and counties—Gapyeong, Yeoncheon, Yangpyeong, Yeoju, Pocheon, and Dongducheon—where demand for childcare support is high due to population decline and other factors.
The delivery ceremony on the 12th was attended by Choi Chang-su, President of the Gyeonggi Agriculture & Fisheries Promotion Agency; Cho Byung-rae, Director-General of the Gyeonggi Province Local Administration Bureau; and Jeon Chang-ho, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Province Social Welfare Council, who examined the eco-friendly produce packages and shared the current status of the project.
Choi Chang-su, President of the Gyeonggi Agriculture & Fisheries Promotion Agency, said, “The eco-friendly produce package support is a project that supports the diets of children whose meals are suspended during vacation while also helping eco-friendly farms secure stable sales channels,” adding, “Through donations, we will create a win-win model where local welfare and agriculture grow together.”
Cho Byung-rae, Director-General of the Gyeonggi Province Local Administration Bureau, said, “Building on this project, we will continue to develop designated donation projects so that hometown love donations can be used practically to solve various local issues,” and added, “We will work to ensure that more people empathize with the meaning of hometown love donations and participate.”
The hometown love donation system is a program that allows individuals to donate up to 20 million won annually to local governments other than their current place of residence.
