Suwon Youth Compete in History, Culture, and Reading Knowledge at 'Scholarship Golden Bell'

The Suwon City Scholarship Foundation held the '2026 Suwon City Youth Scholarship Golden Bell' on the 29th in the conference room of Suwon City Hall.

The Youth Scholarship Golden Bell, attended by 80 participants including middle school students and out-of-school youth in Suwon, proceeded through preliminary rounds, a losers' bracket, main rounds, and finals. Questions were drawn from Suwon's history, culture, municipal affairs, general knowledge, and from authors Noh Tae-ju's 'Live Cherishing Yourself' and Choi Tae-sung's 'The Value of History,' both selected as the '2026 Suwon City Book of the Year.'

Suwon Special Metropolitan City Mayor Lee Jae-joon, who posed the first question, said, "The more we enter an artificial intelligence (AI) age, the more important it is to develop the power to think, question, and judge for oneself," and "I hope that preparing for Golden Bell becomes an opportunity to better understand Suwon and learn wisdom from books."

Kim Chae-won, a third-year student at Imok Middle School, remained as the final participant and received the grand prize. Jung Ji-hyuk, a second-year student at Songwon Middle School, and Lee Yun-ji, a third-year student at Suil Girls' Middle School, each received the top excellence award. In addition, a total of 15 youth were honored, including four receiving excellence awards and eight receiving encouragement awards.

The grand prize winner received a certificate of merit from the Suwon Office of Education Director and a 700,000 won scholarship from the Suwon City Scholarship Foundation. Winners of the top excellence award (500,000 won), excellence award (300,000 won), and encouragement award (200,000 won) each received scholarships from the Suwon City Scholarship Foundation.
