'Hold Hands and RAS ON!' Hawon Elementary School Transforms School Daily Life
The Gyeonggi Province Office of Education (Superintendent An Min-seok) held the "'Hold Hands and RAS ON!' event with the RAS Character Development Special Committee" at Hawon Elementary School in Seongnam on the 31st.
The event was organized to share Hawon Elementary's excellent implementation cases where reading, arts and culture, and sports naturally permeate the school curriculum and daily life with the educational community, and to explore directions for developing RAS education based on authentic voices from school sites.
The event was attended by Superintendent An Min-seok of Gyeonggi Province, Chairman Kook Jung-beom of the Education Planning Committee, Chairman Kim Sung-soo of the Education Administration Committee, as well as officials from the Office of Education, teachers, students, and parents.
The event featured △sharing of phone-free practice pledges by parents and student councils △'Oasis School Run' where the educational community runs together △morning concert at Hawon Art Hall by students from Seongnam Hawon Care Center △international exchange picture book-making, teacher-developed app to prevent biased reading, and sharing of parent reading club cases.
In particular, the 'Oasis School Run' is a program where students continuously manage their records and continue sports activities using a cumulative running management system developed directly by teachers, and medals were awarded to students who completed the cumulative 42.195km on that day, sharing the meaning of consistent practice and growth.
In the morning concert on the way to school, singer Yun Hyung-ju sang together with students and communicated through music, and in the library, they spent meaningful time meeting with poet Ahn Do-hyun, allowing literature, music, and art to permeate the school's daily life.
Superintendent An Min-seok of Gyeonggi Province stated, "We will work together with schools, the Office of Education, and the community so that the school's good RAS practices do not remain in one school but spread throughout Gyeonggi education, allowing all schools in Gyeonggi Province to become excellent RAS schools," and added, "We will provide opportunities for excellent RAS students to visit Silicon Valley."
The Gyeonggi Province Office of Education announced that it will form the 'RAS Character Development Special Committee' composed of field experts in reading, arts and culture, sports, and education at this event, and plans to continue policy proposals and on-site cooperation to ensure that RAS education becomes a permanent part of daily life and curriculum rather than a one-time project, including establishing criteria for selecting excellent schools and excellent students.
Furthermore, Hawon Elementary has been designated as the first outstanding RAS operating school, and the Office of Education plans to continuously discover excellent schools that evenly operate reading, arts and culture, and sports throughout the province, complete the Gyeonggi RAS Map, and promote RAS character development education substantively by sharing and spreading diverse implementation cases from school sites.
