Cheong Wa Dae: Yong Hye-in Should Have Opportunity to Explain Stance at Confirmation Hearing

The Cheong Wa Dae stated on the 1st that Yong Hye-in, the nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, should be given an opportunity to explain her position at the confirmation hearing regarding the controversy over maintaining her proportional representation seat.

It has been customary for proportional representation lawmakers to resign from their National Assembly seats when nominated as ministerial candidates.

However, Yong, a twice-elected proportional representative, has indicated her intention to maintain her legislative seat while serving as minister.

This has drawn criticism not only from the opposition but also from some circles within the progressive bloc and ruling party, calling for her to step down from her seat.
