Hwaseong Special City Holds 'Suicide Prevention and Life Respect Committee' Meeting...Discusses Customized Regional Measures
Hwaseong Special City (Mayor Jung Myung-geun) held the '2026 Hwaseong City Suicide Prevention and Life Respect Committee' on September 1st in the Situation Room on the 2nd floor of City Hall to review the implementation status of regional suicide prevention projects and discuss future direction.
The committee was attended by 18 members of the Life Respect Committee composed of experts from various fields including police, fire, education, and medical services, led by Committee Chair Jung Myung-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong Special City, as well as the heads of four district offices in Hwaseong City.
Participants shared information on Hwaseong City's suicide mortality status and suicide prevention project implementation in 2026, and exchanged views on suicide prevention measures tailored to local circumstances and ways to foster a culture of life respect.
Major agenda items include △2025 provisional suicide death statistics △establishment and operation of rural-type suicide prevention centers △status of high-frequency suicide areas and results of post-incident response measures, among others.
In particular, participants examined the direction of suicide prevention projects and effective response measures, and also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation among related agencies in the region.
The city plans to reflect opinions and advice from this committee in future suicide prevention projects to strengthen the suicide prevention system tailored to regional characteristics.
Mayor Jung Myung-geun of Hwaseong Special City stated, "Since suicide results from a complex interaction of sociostructural and individual factors, it is important to establish a system in which the regional community responds together," and added, "We will carefully analyze suicide mortality status and regional characteristics to specify necessary policies and establish effective prevention measures by dividing roles with related agencies."
