Suwon Special City Supports Installation of AI-Type Pedal Misoperation Prevention Devices for Elderly Drivers

Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-joon) is recruiting elderly drivers aged 65 and older to participate in the 'AI-Type Pedal Misoperation Prevention Device Installation Support Project' by September 14.

The pedal misoperation prevention device is designed to prevent situations where a driver accidentally presses the accelerator pedal, causing the vehicle to suddenly accelerate. It detects abnormal rapid acceleration during low-speed driving, restricts accelerator pedal operation, and issues a warning sound, among other functions.

Eligible applicants are actual drivers aged 65 and older who have been registered as residents in Suwon City for at least one year as of the application date. Device installation will be supported for a total of 45 vehicles. The full installation cost of 440,000 won per vehicle will be covered, with no out-of-pocket expenses for applicants.

The applicant and the actual driver of the vehicle must be the same person, and commercial vehicles are excluded from support eligibility. Smartphone app installation for effect analysis and provision of driving records are required, so iPhone users cannot apply.

Supported vehicles must have a maximum load capacity of 1.4 tons or less and be eligible for device installation. Depending on vehicle type and model year, installation eligibility may vary, so applicants should confirm whether their vehicle is eligible before applying.

Applications can be submitted online through Suwon City's civic participation platform 'Sae-bit Talk-Talk' or by visiting the Traffic Policy Division of Suwon City Hall (2nd floor, 401 Gyeongsu-daero, Paldal-gu). Applicants must submit an application form, a family register copy, vehicle registration certificate or vehicle registration record, and a driving experience certificate, among other documents.

Based on evaluation criteria, 45 eligible applicants and 5 reserve applicants will be selected in order of highest scores and notified individually. Selected drivers must install the device and mandatorily maintain it for one year, cooperating with effect analysis of the project such as driving data collection.
