Park Seung-won, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, Elected as Standing Representative of 9th-Term Mokminik Club
Park Seung-won, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, was unanimously elected as the new standing representative at the '9th-Term Mokminik Club Launch Ceremony and Commemorative Seminar' held on the afternoon of the 4th at the L7 Gwangmyeong by Lotte Hotel.
The 'Mokminik Club' is a gathering of local government leaders working toward sustainable regional development and the realization of grassroots democracy, founded in 2010.
The organization has regularly held forums and seminars with agendas including response to regional depopulation, asset-building of local communities, expansion of social solidarity economy, and participation and governance. Through these activities, it has shared exemplary policies of local governments and on-site experiences, while seeking joint solutions for the development of local autonomy and enhanced competitiveness of local governments.
In the 9th term, 35 local government leaders from across the nation participate as members.
Mayor Park emphasized the role of local government, saying, "Issues directly affecting citizens' lives—including sluggish household economies, population decline, regional depopulation, climate crisis, and care service gaps—are becoming increasingly complex," and "Local governments are the closest to citizens and best positioned to identify problems and initiate change first."
The event proceeded with a launch ceremony marking the beginning of the 9th-Term Mokminik Club, election of executives, and a commemorative seminar with the theme 'Innovation Created by Local Governments in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).' At the gathering, local government leaders shared their core visions and strategies for the 9th term.
Mayor Park particularly presented a vision to foster a 'Constitution-Friendly City' where constitutional values take root in administration and citizens' daily lives, and to comprehensively guarantee fundamental rights spanning the entire lifecycle—including care, housing, environment, education, and transportation.
