Gwangmyeong City Begins Reinforced Retaining Wall Reconstruction on Chunghun Bridge Access Road…Targeting Completion by December 2027

Gwangmyeong City (Mayor Park Seung-won) is undertaking reconstruction work on the reinforced earth retaining wall of the Chunghun Bridge access road to ensure safety.

The city announced on the 7th that it will begin the reinforced earth retaining wall reconstruction project on the Chunghun Bridge access road on the 14th, targeting completion by December 2027.

The construction will proceed by completely demolishing the existing retaining wall and installing a new one. The total project cost is 3.5 billion won.

Consequently, the current traffic restrictions on the upper road of Chunghun Bridge—two lanes on the right side heading toward Anyang out of the four lanes in both directions and a 120-meter pedestrian section—and use of the lower road will be maintained until September of next year.

This construction is a measure following a detailed safety diagnosis conducted in January, which rated the reinforced earth retaining wall on the right side of the Chunghun Bridge access road as "Grade D," requiring urgent repairs and reinforcement.

The city plans to thoroughly manage site safety during construction and strengthen project management to complete the work without delay within the scheduled timeframe.

Additionally, the city plans to deploy on-site traffic guides and provide guidance on reduced-speed driving to minimize inconvenience to citizens and strengthen traffic safety management.

Mayor Park Seung-won of Gwangmyeong City said, "We will prioritize citizen safety and create a safe road environment through thorough safety management and swift project progress," and added, "Although there may be some inconvenience during the construction period, we ask for your understanding and cooperation as this is a measure for citizen safety."
