Gyeonggi Province in Full-Scale Effort to Secure Industrial Complex Supply for 2027-2029

Gyeonggi Province is joining forces with cities and counties to secure and devise allocation strategies for industrial complex supply in the growth management zone for 2027-2029, in response to changing conditions in the supply of industrial complexes in the Seoul Metropolitan Area.

On the 21st, Gyeonggi Province held a meeting at the Suwon Convention Center attended by industrial site officials from the province and cities and counties, sharing 'Gyeonggi Province's industrial site policy and supply direction' and holding a departmental-level meeting on the allocation of industrial complex supply in the growth management zone.

The province first explained the current status of industrial complexes within the province, the Seoul Metropolitan Area industrial complex supply system, and the procedures for establishing industrial complexes, and shared the direction of industrial site policy for the ninth term of the civilian-led administration in response to future changes in central government policies and regional industrial site strategies.

The Seoul Metropolitan Area growth management zone can supply new industrial complexes within the scope of industrial complex supply allocated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport under the 'Seoul Metropolitan Regulation Planning Act' and other laws. However, the volume of industrial complexes allocated to Gyeonggi Province is significantly insufficient compared to actual development demand.

The province particularly notes that considering the recent government's policy direction of '5 mega-hubs, 3 special zones' for regionally-led growth and balanced national development, conditions for Gyeonggi Province to secure new industrial complex supply in 2027-2029 may become even more challenging than before.

Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province plans to comprehensively review not only simple industrial complex development demand or corporate relocation intentions, but also △execution performance of existing allocated supply △feasibility of business promotion △actual corporate investment demand △possibility of securing infrastructure △linkage with Gyeonggi Province's strategic industries, to allocate the limited industrial complex supply more strategically.

In particular, the departmental meeting with city and county officials examined the progress of industrial complex supply already provided in the growth management zone and intensively discussed future allocation criteria.

Additionally, the supply volume for the next three-year period 2027-2029 will advance beyond the existing focus on individual industrial complex demand and actively reflect Gyeonggi Province's broad-based industrial policy and regional industrial characteristics.

Lee Min-woo, head of the Industrial Site Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "As conditions for securing new industrial complex supply in the Seoul Metropolitan Area will not be favorable going forward, decisions on which industries and regions to allocate limited supply to will become far more important than in the past," and added, "We will work closely with cities and counties to actively secure the supply needed for national advanced industry competitiveness and Gyeonggi Province's industrial policy, and manage already-secured supply to enable rapid business implementation."
