23,000 Housing Units to Be Supplied in Goyang's Daejangs-dong and Uiwang's Ojeon-dong, Major Transportation Hubs...Construction to Begin in 2029

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Kim Yun-deok) announced on the 21st that it has designated the areas around Daejangs-dong in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province and Ojeon-dong and Wanggok-dong in Uiwang as new public housing districts, supplying a total of 23,000 housing units.

The Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence and Uiwang Ojeon-Wanggok public housing districts have completed all procedures for district designation following the candidate site announcement in November 2024, consultation with residents, strategic environmental impact assessments and disaster impact reviews, central land expropriation committee deliberation on public interest, and recently passed deliberation by the Central Urban Planning Committee.

The Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence district is located adjacent to Ilsan New City, Goyang Changneung, and Goyang Hwajung districts, with most basic living infrastructure already in place. It is near Daegok Station, where five railway lines stop including GTX-A, Line 3, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, Seohae Line, and Gyeongoi Line, and is adjacent to major metropolitan arterial roads such as the Seoul Metropolitan Outer Ring Expressway, Gangbyeon North Road (Jayuro), and Seoul-Munsan Expressway, offering excellent transportation convenience.

The Uiwang Ojeon-Wanggok district is an area with high development pressure due to the presence of nearby Uiwang-Gunpo-Ansan New City, Uiwang Gocheon District, and Uiwang Baekun Valley. It has excellent transportation location conditions with proximity to the Gwacheon-Bongdam Urban Expressway and Gyeongsu-daero (National Route 1), and the Indeokwon-Dongtan Double-Track Railway Uiwang City Hall Station (tentative name) scheduled to open in 2029 located approximately 0.7km away.

The Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence and Uiwang Ojeon-Wanggok districts have begun the district planning process prior to district designation to ensure rapid housing supply. Following the establishment of metropolitan traffic improvement measures and related impact assessments, the district plan is scheduled to be approved in the second half of 2027, with initial housing projects set to begin construction in 2029.

Jung Woo-jin, Director of the Housing Supply Promotion Headquarters at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "The Goyang Daegok Knowledge Convergence district, with its extensive transportation network centered on Daegok Station and abundant living infrastructure, and the Uiwang Ojeon-Wanggok district, with its excellent transportation accessibility and pleasant natural environment, are expected to become new residential hubs in the metropolitan area," adding, "We will apply the August 13 Rapid Housing Supply Plan to promote projects with momentum and do our best to supply sufficient housing in a timely manner."
