Groundbreaking of GTX C Line Enabling 30-Minute Travel Between Suwon Station and Cheongnyangni Station

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Kim Yun-deok) will commence construction of the Metropolitan Rapid Transit (GTX) C Line private investment project on the 15th. In commemoration of the groundbreaking, promotional exhibitions will be operated to allow citizens to experience the GTX C Line in advance.

The GTX C Line is an 86.6-km metropolitan rapid transit route that departs from Deokjeong-dong in Yangju City and passes through central Seoul via Cheongnyangni Station, Samsung Station, and Gangnam Station, connecting to Suwon Station and Sangroksu Station in southern Gyeonggi Province.

Upon opening of this line, travel time is expected to be significantly reduced—from approximately 80 minutes to approximately 30 minutes between Deokjeong Station and Samsung Station, and from approximately 75 minutes to approximately 30 minutes between Suwon Station and Cheongnyangni Station—fundamentally improving metropolitan transit in the Seoul metropolitan area.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the project operator have established promotional exhibitions at Suwon Station and Uijeongbu Station to inform citizens about the GTX C Line groundbreaking and enhance understanding of the project.

The opening ceremony at Suwon Station will begin at 5 p.m. on the 15th and will feature the unveiling of a full-scale train model for the GTX C Line. The event is expected to be attended by approximately 100 people, including Kim Yong-seok, Chair of the Metropolitan Rapid Transit Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, National Assembly members, local government leaders, project officials, and citizens.

The promotional exhibitions will operate at Suwon Station from the 16th to 18th and at Uijeongbu Station from the 20th to 22nd, and will be organized as exhibition and experience spaces where visitors can view train design and route information and participate in quizzes.

In the experience space, any citizen can use a kiosk to check their reduced commute times upon the opening of the C Line, directly modify vehicle interior and exterior designs, and share the completed images, allowing them to experience the C Line in an easy and enjoyable manner.

A photo booth for taking four-cut photographs commemorating anticipation of the opening will also be available, and a lucky wheel event offering various prizes for solving GTX C Line quizzes will be operated alongside it.

Kim Yong-seok, Chair of the Metropolitan Rapid Transit Committee, is expected to state at the opening ceremony: "I am delighted to inform the public of the groundbreaking of the C Line, which has faced prolonged challenges," adding "Going forward, we will ensure quality and safety through thorough project management and work to achieve timely opening."
