Provincial Councilor Oh Hyun-jeong: "Urgent Need to Build Gyeonggi Province-City/County Cooperation Model for Local Art Community"

Oh Hyun-jeong, member of the Economic Labor Committee of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly (Democratic Party, Hwaseong District 2), visited the Insadong Art Center in Seoul's Insadong district on the 23rd to tour the local artist exhibition hall prepared by Hwaseong City and explored policy cooperation measures at the provincial level to support creative activities and expand exhibition spaces for regional cultural and artistic figures.

This exhibition hall visit was conducted to directly examine the exhibition support project being pursued by Hwaseong City to externally showcase works by local artists and foster creative motivation, and to discuss ways to expand outstanding cultural and artistic support models from cities and counties across the entire Gyeonggi Province.

After touring the exhibition, Councilor Oh stated, "For local artists, securing opportunities and spaces to present their excellent works to the public is just as important as creating them," and added, "In that sense, the project where cities and counties take the initiative to provide external exhibition spaces for local artists has become a very practical and reassuring support for working artists."

Councilor Oh suggested, "While Gyeonggi Province's financial situation is also challenging, if the province provides financial and administrative support to meaningful and effective projects led by local governments, it can develop into a broader-scale project that provides opportunities to many more local artists."

She also emphasized the continuity of cultural and artistic policy, stating, "Cultural and arts should not end as one-off events or temporary exhibitions, but rather become unique local culture and permeate into the daily lives of residents only when artists can consistently create and present their work in a stable environment."

Councilor Oh emphasized that even considering the overall difficult financial circumstances of Gyeonggi Province and its cities and counties, it is necessary to recognize the importance of cooperation between cities and counties and seek ways to revitalize local culture and arts.

Finally, Councilor Oh stated, "It is the role of the assembly to lay the groundwork so that art sprouting from local communities can meet the wider world beyond our province," and pledged, "Gyeonggi Province and its 31 cities and counties will join hands and spare no effort in policy consideration and support to enable local cultural and artistic figures to concentrate on their creative activities with stability."
