Osan Offers Anti-Discrimination and Human Rights Education for People with Disabilities

Osan City (Mayor Kwak Sang-wook) announced on the 14th that it conducted anti-discrimination and human rights education for people with disabilities on the afternoon of the 13th at the City Hall Conference Hall as part of its 2013 program to improve human rights protections for people with disabilities.

The training session was attended by approximately 200 participants, including neighborhood chiefs and heads of residents' autonomy committees, as well as staff members from local facilities and organizations. The National Coalition for Elimination of Disability Discrimination's Park Kyong-seok, co-chairperson, was invited as a lecturer to conduct the session on "Concepts of Human Rights for People with Disabilities and Discrimination Cases."

Mayor Kwak Sang-wook, who attended the training, said, "Through today's education and continuous initiatives to improve human rights protections for people with disabilities, I hope that awareness of human rights for people with disabilities will be heightened, and a society free of prejudice and discrimination against people with disabilities will be realized."

Osan City is currently implementing a program to improve human rights protections for people with disabilities to prevent human rights violations and enable people with disabilities to live happy lives in a non-discriminatory society alongside people without disabilities.

Meanwhile, Osan City invited human rights-related lecturers in August to provide training on the concepts of human rights for people with disabilities and discrimination cases to city civil servants. On the 7th, the city held a commissioning ceremony for the Disability Anti-Discrimination and Human Rights Protection Committee, which was established to explore measures for preventing discrimination against people with disabilities and for effective remedies for their rights.
