Rep. Jung Byung-guk Announces 'Seven Major Disaster Safety Policies for Gyeonggi Province'
Rep. Jung Byung-guk (4-term, representing Yeoju, Yangpyeong, and Gapyeong), a preliminary candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor of the Saenuri Party, held a press conference at the Gyeonggi Provincial Council Briefing Room on the 1st and announced seven major disaster safety policies for Gyeonggi Province.
Rep. Jung stated, "Since the 16th, following the Sewol ferry disaster, I have shared the grief with families of the missing at the scene and witnessed the limitations of our disaster response and crisis management capabilities. We will establish a Gyeonggi disaster safety system comparable to the national disaster management system so that we never experience such sorrow from disasters again."
The seven major disaster safety policies for Gyeonggi Province announced by Rep. Jung include ▲Establishment of a new Gyeonggi Safety Authority ▲Training of 100,000 safety keepers ▲Implementation of a safety reporting system ▲Construction of a crisis communication system ▲Introduction of a social cohesion network ▲Implementation of disaster-free Gyeonggi projects ▲Strengthening of Gyeonggi security crisis management systems.
Rep. Jung particularly emphasized the establishment of a Gyeonggi Safety Authority for continuous disaster and safety management, the training of 100,000 safety keepers who can respond immediately in the field during disasters, and the implementation of a safety reporting system for disaster prevention.
The plan calls for establishing a position of Deputy Governor for Safety within the Gyeonggi Safety Authority and establishing a disaster safety division, a comprehensive disaster situation room, and a disaster training division under the direct control of the fire department headquarters.
Rep. Jung also announced plans to select 11 regional hub fire stations from 34 fire stations throughout the province to establish an integrated disaster scene command system during disasters.
Additionally, Rep. Jung revealed a plan to foster 100,000 systematically trained safety keepers throughout Gyeonggi Province by introducing professional disaster safety education and training programs from organizations such as the Korean Red Cross and the National Disaster Relief Association.
He also announced plans to establish a sea-related safety theme park in the western part of Gyeonggi Province and a theme park related to mountains and rivers in the eastern part.
As a disaster prevention policy, Rep. Jung unveiled a plan to enable a safety reporting system named the "Gyeonggi Blue Light Alarm System," through which reports to the Gyeonggi Safety Authority would allow expert task forces to take immediate action.
Rep. Jung stated, "Citizens' happiness can be found not in economic indices but in the small everyday moments spent with family in a society where we can feel secure. I will do my best to ensure that anyone, anywhere in Gyeonggi Province can enjoy a safe and secure life."
