Gyeonggi Province and Saenuri Party Policy Committee Hold Budget Policy Consultation Meeting

Governor Nam Kyung-pul held the 'Saenuri Party Policy Committee·Gyeonggi Province Budget Policy Consultation Meeting' at the Gyeonggi Province Government Complex at 11 a.m. on the 2nd, inviting the leadership of the Saenuri Party Policy Committee and National Assembly members from the Budget and Accounts Committee, requesting active cooperation on major national treasury-funded projects in the province.

The meeting was attended by six participants including Ju Ho-young, chairman of the Saenuri Party Policy Committee, Kang Seok-hun, vice chairman of the Policy Committee, Lee Hyun-jae, vice chairman of the Policy Committee, Lee Hak-jae, secretary of the National Assembly's Budget and Accounts Committee, Rep. Noh Chul-lae of the Budget and Accounts Committee representing a district in the province, and Kim Hong-sun, secretary-general of the Saenuri Party Gyeonggi Province chapter.

Governor Nam on this day requested support for major SOC projects totaling 1.3761 trillion won, including ▲Road sector, 765.4 billion won for four projects including compensation for the Guri~Namyangju~Pocheon private expressway ▲Railway sector, 325 billion won for four projects including the construction of the double-tracked Hanam Line (Sangil~Geomdansan) ▲Local river improvement projects and nine other projects totaling 285.7 billion won.

In addition, he also proposed improvements to laws and systems on policy issues including ▲Establishment of convergence and complex R&D clusters in Gwangmyeong and Siheung ▲Direct connection of KTX Suwon Station departures (Seojungri~Jije Station) ▲System improvements to secure investment capacity for local public enterprises ▲Amendment to the Local Educational Finance Grant Act ▲Amendment to fire-related laws to expand fire service finances ▲Increase in local consumption tax rate ▲Increase in the legal rate of local allocation tax.

Governor Nam stated, "Through sound local financial management, the current 8:2 ratio of national to local taxes should be improved to 6:4 to realize mature local self-governance," emphasizing that "it is necessary to promptly implement an additional 5% increase in the local consumption tax rate to realize substantial 40% autonomy and to expand the scope of national treasury subsidies for fire equipment to expand fire service finances."
