Ju Hyung-chul, Vice Governor for Economy at Gyeonggi Province, visited Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Campus on the 1st to hear about corporate challenges and inspect the P5 FAB construction site, P4 FAB semiconductor production line, and water treatment facilities.

This visit represents a continuation of his on-site inspections of the semiconductor industry following his September 17th site check of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex. The visit was arranged to directly assess production status at Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Campus, a key semiconductor production base for Gyeonggi Province, and to inspect environmental and water quality management operations including process water recycling and wastewater treatment.

Vice Governor Ju first received briefings from Samsung Electronics officials on the Pyeongtaek Campus operations, water recycling systems, and major corporate issues. In particular, he focused on inspecting the eco-friendly water management system, including wastewater quality management from semiconductor manufacturing processes and the current status of water recycling.

He then visited the P5 FAB construction site to verify construction progress and future implementation plans, and toured the P4 FAB production line to observe semiconductor manufacturing processes and production facility operations.

Subsequently, he visited the Green Building, an in-house water treatment facility that provides primary treatment of wastewater generated from semiconductor manufacturing processes, and inspected the wastewater treatment procedures. He then visited the Deokseok Public Wastewater Treatment Facility and Seojeongri Stream, the final discharge point, to verify wastewater treatment from the facility through the public treatment process, and personally confirmed the wastewater discharge pathway passing through Seojeongri Stream to Jinwi Stream, Anseong Stream, and Pyeongtaek Lake at the site.

Currently, Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Campus operates four semiconductor production lines from P1 to P4 and is constructing P5 FAB. Gyeonggi Province plans to strengthen administrative support necessary for establishing new production lines to ensure smooth business implementation at the Pyeongtaek Campus, and in cooperation with related agencies, will support the creation of a sustainable eco-friendly semiconductor ecosystem through water recycling and wastewater management.

Vice Governor Ju stated, "Sustainable development is only possible when rapid supply expansion in the semiconductor industry is coupled with high-efficiency water recycling and strict environmental management of wastewater discharge." He added, "In line with the Gyeonggi Provincial Government's 9th Popular Elected Term policy of 'creating an eco-friendly and safe semiconductor ecosystem,' we will strengthen field-based environmental support systems and actively support enterprises in focusing on eco-friendly production."
