Gyeonggi Province Green Belt Subsidy Increases 33%…Up 3.1 Billion Won from Previous Year

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it has secured 12.3 billion won in national funding following the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's selection results for the 2027 Green Belt Resident Support Project. This represents an increase of approximately 3.1 billion won (33.3%) compared to this year and is the largest amount among the 14 provinces and cities nationwide that manage green belts.

The 12.3 billion won secured by the province accounts for 23% of approximately 53.9 billion won in total national Green Belt Resident Support Project funding for next year. Despite expectations that the national project budget will decrease by 6.6% compared to this year, Gyeonggi Province's allocation has increased instead.

To secure national funding, the province continuously requested expanded national fund allocation to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport based on factors such as the scale of preservation burden fees collected by Gyeonggi Province during the process of lifting and developing green belts. In particular, the province significantly reduced disadvantages arising from abolition, modification, and carryover of existing projects compared to the previous year, and actively identified and applied for environmental and cultural projects such as Nuri-gil trails and recreational green spaces selected through national fund competition.

The secured budget will be allocated to 13 cities and counties including Goyang, Gwangju, Gunpo, Namyangju, Bucheon, Suwon, Siheung, Ansan, Yangpyeong, Uiwang, Uijeongbu, Hanam, and Hwaseong that manage green belts. The funds are scheduled to be invested in improvements to living infrastructure such as road and stream maintenance, and environmental and cultural projects such as Nuri-gil trails and recreational green spaces.

The Green Belt Resident Support Project is designed to support residents who face inconveniences in their daily lives due to the designation of green belts. Its purpose is to repair living infrastructure such as roads and streams, create Nuri-gil trails and recreational green spaces, and reduce residents' living inconveniences while improving their welfare.

Kim Su-hyung, Director of Regional Policy at Gyeonggi Province, said, "It is significant that we have increased Gyeonggi Province's allocation even as national resident support project funding is declining overall. We will ensure that the secured budget is used to practically reduce inconveniences for residents in green belt areas by promoting projects without interruption, and we will do our best to secure national funding through policy improvement suggestions and other means."
