Yongin Municipal Delegation Visits 'Zuidas Dok' Underground Expressway Project...Discusses Cooperation at Florence City Hall

Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin Special City, who is visiting Europe, visited Florence City Hall in Italy on the 30th (local time) to discuss cooperation and exchange plans. He also visited the site of the Zuidas Dok project, where an underground expressway project is underway.
Mayor Lee stated, "Florence is the birthplace of the European Renaissance, and I am deeply moved to be able to discuss cooperation and exchange between our two cities here at Florence City Hall, where the Medici family that led the Renaissance was based. I hope that Yongin and Florence will establish a sister city relationship and also promote student exchanges."
Deputy Mayor Galgani, who was present, said, "Florence is also enthusiastic about establishing sister city relationships with excellent cities abroad. Since Yongin, a semiconductor city, is the center of Korea's advanced industries, I hope opportunities can be provided for young people in Florence interested in advanced technologies such as semiconductors to learn at universities and other institutions in Yongin."
Earlier, Mayor Lee visited the Zuidas Dok project site, an underground transportation infrastructure project in the Zuidas region, Europe's premier eco-friendly economic, commercial, and residential complex being developed south of Amsterdam, Netherlands.

This project is a mega-scale plan that transforms the Zuidas Station into a comprehensive transportation hub by placing the expressway (A10) underground and securing surface space to enhance convenience for residents. Yongin City is pursuing a plan to install a comprehensive transfer facility around Guseong Station adjacent to the expressway in connection with the Gyeongbu Expressway underground project.
Mayor Lee and the Yongin delegation received a detailed briefing on the Zuidas Dok project implementation process from Nils van den Brink, Zuidas Dok Program Overall Transportation Manager, at the Zuidas Dok Information Center.
The delegation asked questions on various aspects related to the project, including how the budget is being secured and what changes residents' lives will experience as the project progresses.
The Gyeongbu Expressway underground project involves constructing a four-lane underground expressway over a 26.1-kilometer section from the Giheung Interchange in Yongin to the Yangjae Interchange in Seoul.
