Gyeonggi Province Job Foundation Supports Career Transition for Marine Corps Veterans to Private Sector Technical Roles

The Gyeonggi Province Job Foundation announced on the 21st that it has completed 'job exploration education tailored for Marine Corps veterans (and those preparing for discharge)' in partnership with Korea Polytechnic University's Hwaseong Campus to facilitate smooth societal integration and private sector career transition for retiring (and soon-to-retire) Marine Corps personnel.

The training program was designed to allow military personnel approaching discharge to directly experience the private sector technical fields and clarify their aptitudes and career directions. The program was conducted in two sessions—on the 12th for equipment maintenance and on the 19th for welding—with each course comprising 8 hours of hands-on training.

A total of 28 people participated in the training, with 13 completing the equipment maintenance course and 15 completing the welding course. Participants confirmed the characteristics of technical work and required competencies through practical training similar to actual work environments. Based on this experience, they had the opportunity to explore their aptitudes and future employment fields.

The foundation plans to implement follow-up employment support services for graduates to ensure the training leads to actual employment rather than merely job experience. The plan involves identifying each individual's preferred position and employment needs, then connecting them with the foundation's employment counseling to support career transition and job-seeking activities. Additionally, the foundation will continue providing customized support by connecting the recruitment needs of military-friendly companies with graduates' preferred positions, offering company matching and job placement services.

Yun Deok-ryong, CEO of the Gyeonggi Province Job Foundation, said, "We hope this training will serve as an opportunity for discharged military personnel to directly experience private sector technical work and clarify their career paths," and added, "We will continue to provide comprehensive support to ensure actual employment by linking the foundation's employment support functions, including employment counseling and matching with military-friendly companies."
