[Suwon Ilbo=Park Chan-hyuk] Osan City announced on the 23rd that it will designate the 27th as 'Crackdown on Unpaid Vehicle Fees Day' and will focus on confiscating license plates from vehicles with unpaid automobile tax and vehicle-related traffic fines.
License plate confiscation targets include △vehicles with three or more unpaid automobile tax payments △vehicles with 300,000 won or more in unpaid traffic fines from parking violations, delayed inspections, uninsured liability, and other violations △registered proxy vehicles, etc. Among these, vehicles with three or more unpaid automobile tax payments become subject to nationwide license plate confiscation.
Confiscated license plates can be returned at the Osan City Hall Collections Division after verification of unpaid tax status and proxy vehicle registration, once the unpaid amount is paid. Payments can be made through various methods including CD/ATM machines, virtual accounts, Wetax, and ARS (☎142-211).
In addition to this crackdown day, the city conducts regular inspections around the clock and on holidays without exception, and is also warning of stricter enforcement measures including transfer orders, compulsory towing, and public sales for vehicles whose license plates are not retrieved within a certain period.
Mayor Lee Kwon-jae stated, "Tax payment obligations are a shared promise that all citizens must uphold together," and added, "We will create a fair city where citizens who faithfully pay taxes are respected and tax justice is realized."
