[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City and Suwon Saemaul Association have built a Saemaul Hall in a village in northern Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan, to serve as a hub for the spread of the Saemaul movement, which opened on the 8th (local time).
Suwon City and Suwon Saemaul Association held a completion ceremony for the ‘Saemaul Hall’ in Akbashat village, Kyrgyzstan on that day, with approximately 100 attendees including Suwon officials and village residents.
The Kyrgyzstan Saemaul Hall, built as part of the ‘Global Village Saemaul Cooperation Project’ by Suwon City and Suwon Saemaul Association, was constructed with an investment of approximately 50 million won in municipal funds, starting construction in June and completing at the end of October.
The Saemaul Hall is a single-story building (interior area of 270㎡) equipped with an office, computer room, study room, kitchen, restroom, and auditorium.
The Saemaul Hall in Akbashat village is expected to serve as a space for residents' harmony and community formation, as well as a hub for the spread of the Saemaul movement within Kyrgyzstan.
Wang Cheol-ho, director of the Autonomous Administration Division of Suwon City, said, “We will continue to spread the Saemaul spirit to Kyrgyzstan and various countries around the world, and promote its values,” adding, “We hope the Saemaul Hall will become a beloved space for residents of Akbashat village.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Global Village Saemaul Cooperation Project’ jointly conducted by Suwon City and Suwon Saemaul Association is a project that spreads the success cases and spirit of the Saemaul movement to underdeveloped countries, instilling a sense of self-reliance and supporting poverty alleviation. To date, it has successfully completed environmental improvement projects at Phon Kam Elementary School in Phon Kam village, Laos (2014-2016), and has supported the construction of a Saemaul Hall, road paving, and pig farming projects (2017-2018) in Buet village, Myanmar.
