[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City has been selected as an 'Outstanding Regional Statistics Institution' in the '2020 Regional Statistics Excellence Case Competition' hosted by Statistics Korea.

The city submitted an entry on the theme of 'Factory Operations Status Survey for Creating a City Good for Business in Suwon' and received an encouragement award. The awards ceremony was held during the '2020 Regional Statistics Development Forum' at the Daejeon Convention Center on the 27th.

Statistics Korea has been holding the 'Regional Statistics Excellence Case Competition' since last year to discover and commend outstanding regional statistics cases and policy research cases utilizing regional statistics. The competition targets 243 metropolitan and basic local governments, research institutes, and others.

Since 2015, the city has conducted an annual survey on the factory operations status of all registered manufacturing enterprises within the city and used the results as basic data for establishing business support policies. The survey examines obstacles hindering business activities and business difficulties or suggestions.

Last year, the city identified the impact of Japanese export restrictions on businesses, and this year, it identified difficulties in business operations due to COVID-19, reflecting survey results in policy formulation.

Based on the factory operations status survey results, the city has resolved business difficulties by operating J-BUS (commuting bus service for industrial complex workers in Gyeonggi Province) connecting Suwon Delta Plex and Suwon Station Transit Center.

Additionally, the city has improved regulations that create difficulties in business operations through ▲amendments to the 'Enforcement Rules for the Law on Activation of Industrial Complexes and Factory Establishment' ▲changes to the Suwon Delta Plex Blocks 1 and 2 management master plan ▲amendments to the 'Suwon City Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Fund Installation and Operation Ordinance.'

An official from the city's Business Support Division stated, "Based on the factory operations status survey, we are identifying obstacles to business activities and business difficulties, and establishing and implementing 'customized business support policies.'" The official added, "We will actively listen to the voices of businesses and establish effective policies that reflect their opinions to the maximum extent, thereby creating a 'city good for business.'"
