[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Suwon City has been selected as an 'Outstanding Regional Statistics Organization' in the '2020 Regional Statistics Excellence Case Competition' organized by Statistics Korea.

The city submitted an entry on the subject of 'Survey on Factory Operations to Create Suwon as a City Good for Business' and received an award of encouragement. The awards ceremony took place during the '2020 Regional Statistics Development Forum' held at the Daejeon Convention Center on the 27th.

Statistics Korea has been holding the 'Regional Statistics Excellence Case Competition' since last year to discover and honor outstanding regional statistics cases and policy research cases utilizing regional statistics. The competition targets 243 metropolitan and basic local governments and research institutes.

Since 2015, the city has conducted annual surveys on factory operations of all registered manufacturing companies within the city and utilized the results as basic data for establishing business support policies. The survey examines obstacles hindering business activities and difficulties or suggestions from companies.

Last year, it identified the impact of Japan's export restrictions on businesses, and this year, it grasped difficulties in business operations due to COVID-19, reflecting the survey results in policy formulation.

Based on the results of the factory operations survey, the city addressed business difficulties by operating the J-BUS (commuting bus service for workers in Gyeonggi Province industrial complexes) connecting Suwon Delta Plex and Suwon Station Transfer Center.

Additionally, the city improved regulations burdening business operations through ▲revisions to the 'Enforcement Rules of the Act on Activation of Industrial Complexes and Factory Establishment' ▲changes to the basic management plan for Suwon Delta Plex Blocks 1 and 2 ▲revisions to the 'Suwon City Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Fund Installation and Operation Ordinance.'

An official from the city's Business Support Division stated, "Based on surveys on the operational conditions of manufacturing companies (factories), we are identifying obstacles to business activities and difficulties from companies and establishing and implementing 'customized business support policies,'" adding, "We will actively listen to the voices of businesses and establish effective policies that reflect their opinions to the greatest extent, thereby creating a 'city good for business.'"
